Treco at the Bath & West County Show from Wednesday 30th May to Saturday 2nd June!!!

Monday, May 28th, 2012

The Bath & West County Showground at Shepton Mallet is open, set up has begun and Treco will be on site tomorrow!

We are going to be on the Country Land & Business Association (CLA)’s stand from Wednesday May 30th to Saturday June 2nd. The stand is number 196 and is located on Avenue B, just opposite the Cattle Judging Ring.

There will be three Guntamatic biomass boilers on the stand to demonstrate the range;

a Synchro log boiler, a Biostar wood pellet boiler and the cut away demo version of Powerchip multi fuel boiler.

The focus of the show will be offering visitors and CLA members the opportunity to see how the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) can benefit them.

We will be available to talk about how biomass can help CLA members to reduce their fossil fuel heating costs by up to 80%, reduce their CO2 emissions by 96% and to receive Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) payments.

Visitors and CLA will be able to discuss their RHI applications and see demonstrations of Treco’s “RHI Calculator”. This tool shows prospective biomass boiler owners the potential earnings from the RHI scheme over 20 years, the fuel cost savings and the payback period, index linked to inflation.

For example, a country estate with main house and offices using a 198kW system could receive upwards of £20,000 and a farm house with cottages and holiday let using 100kW system could earn £10,000 or more a year for the 20 year duration of the scheme.

We’re Off to the All Energy Show in Aberdeen Today!

Monday, May 21st, 2012

We’re leaving this morning to travel to the All Energy Show in Aberdeen, which is on this Wednesday 23rd and Thursday 24th May and will be on C110 on May 23rd & 24th.

We will be demonstrating the Guntamatic Powerchip and Biostar biomass boilers, along with our RHI Calculator, a spreadsheet available as a free download from

This spreadsheet shows the installed cost of a biomass boiler system, the potential earnings from the RHI scheme over 20 years, fuel cost savings and the payback period. It also factors in inflation and the cost of borrowing to show the net financial benefit for the duration of the RHI scheme.

For example;
- A Hospital using a 198kW biomass boiler system could make a fuel cost saving of £8,633 per annum or more over oil and gain upwards of £20,000 a year in RHI payments, with a payback period of 5 years.
- A School with a 150kW system could save £6.879 per annum or more over LPG and gain an average RHI income upwards of £16,000 per annum and a payback period of 5 years.
- A Care Home using a 100kW system could save over £12,649 per annum over electricity and make upwards of £10,000 a year in RHI payments, for 20 years, with payback of under 3 years on the project’s installed cost.

Treco have also summarised the entire volumes 1 & 2 of the RHI Guidance from 230 pages into just 15. Also available to download from www.treco.co.uk, this pdf is proving to be a huge time saver for RHI applicants. Treco are also providing direct assistance to RHI applicants throughout the entire process, to find out more contact the Treco office on 0845 130 9012.

Treco to Present at the On Farm Energy Generation Event on June 21st!!!

Tuesday, May 15th, 2012

Gordon Traill, Managing Director of biomass boiler company Treco, will be making a presentation at 3.30 on June 21st at the On Farm Energy Generation Event, to be held at Stoneleigh Park on June 20th to 21st!!!

Gordon is an active Devon farmer, with 35 years of farming experience. He started Treco in 2006 to design, supply, install and maintain complete biomass boiler heating systems. These systems are suitable for farm, rural businesses and properties, commercial, domestic and district heating applications (where several buildings are heated by a single boiler).

Gordon’s presentation will draw directly from his own experience of biomass boilers as an active Devon farmer and will discuss how biomass can be of benefit to farms and rural business and how the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) can benefit them.

He will be available to talk about how biomass can help farmers to reduce their fossil fuel heating costs by up to 80%, reduce their CO2 emissions by 96% and to receive Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) payments.

Gordon will also give a demonstration of Treco’s “RHI Calculator”. He will use this tool to shows farmers in the audience the potential earnings from the RHI scheme over 20 years, the fuel cost savings and the payback period, index linked to inflation.

For example, a country estate with main house and offices using a 198kW system could receive upwards of £20,000 and a farm house with cottages and holiday let using 100kW system could earn £10,000 or more a year for the 20 year duration of the scheme.

Should the government advertise the “green switchover”?

Monday, May 14th, 2012

New report argues national communication campaign modelled on digital switchover ads needed to promote Green Deal and smart meter rollout

The government will today be called on to relax its ban on advertising spend and commission a national communications campaign to drive adoption of upcoming green initiatives, such as the Green Deal energy efficiency scheme, the smart meter rollout, and the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI).

The recommendation is the centrepiece of a new report from the Green Alliance think-tank, backed by a number of high-profile firms including Scottish Power, Asda, Kellogg’s, Groundwork, PepsiCo, which argues that a government-orchestrated campaign is essential to ensure the success of the coalition’s flagship green policies.

Ministers have been reluctant to spend money on advertising since taking office, and a ban on government-backed advertising was announced as one the coalition’s first deficit-reduction measures in the summer of 2010. Since then a number of campaigns have been commissioned, although not on the same level as had been the case prior to 2008.

However, the new report, entitled Neither sermons nor silence: the case for national communications on energy, predicts that without a co-ordinated approach to raising awareness of key policies such as the Green Deal, the government is unlikely to generate the levels of adoption it is hoping for.

Biomass Heat Incentive? Renewable Heat Incentive Progress Update

Friday, May 11th, 2012

Ofgem recently published a report on the first 4 months of the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme. We give an overview of the latest figures for the number of installations that are now participating.

Biomass Gains an Early Lead

Although only 20 RHI installations have been accredited, it is encouraging to see that 80% of them have been solid biomass, with 15% from ground souce heat pumps and 5% for water source heat pumps..

However, even more encouraging is that solid biomass accounts for 98% of the total 5.25 mega watts of installed capacity by technology type., with ground source heat pumps at 1.5% and water source heat pumps at 0.5%.

Top Line Figures;

• A total of 20 renewable heat installations were accredited under the scheme from 28 November 2011 to 31 March 2012, 1 of which was preliminary.
• 5.25 MW of total capacity was accredited to the RHI by 31 March 2012 since 28 November 2011, 2.8 MW of which was preliminary.
• A total of £9,707 in RHI payments were paid to participants for the period 28 November 2011 to 31 March 2012.
• The number of enquiries and applications being received are increasing on an accelerating basis.

The first couple of months of the scheme have highlighted a couple of areas where applicants are experiencing difficulties in making successful applications to the scheme.

• Applications frequently do not contain all the necessary supporting information
• The information provided is often not detailed enough
• Supporting documents are often confusing and sometimes even illegible
• There are inconsistencies in the information provided

Our best advice is to read Treco’s RHI guidance summaries http://www.treco.co.uk/uploads/rhi-guidance-summaries.pdf which condense the 230 pages of Volumes 1&2 of the RHI Guidance into just 15. We also advise ensuring all of your supporting information is clear and complete. Otherwise, your application (and the date that payments begin) will be delayed!
