Coming Soon! Summary of Renewable Heat Incentive Guidance, Volume 2

Thursday, December 1st, 2011

Following some great feedback on our summary of the RHI Guidance Volume 1, we will soon be publishing a summary of Volume 2. This is intended to signpost you to the full information relating to biomass, save you time and make the Renewable Heat Incentive accessible.

Volume Two details the payment calculation and payments provisions for the RHI, and ongoing obligations with which a participant needs to comply in order to receive RHI payments.

This includes information about how to submit periodic data to Ofgem, including meter readings and annual declarations. Consequences of non compliance, inspection arrangements and the review process are also outlined.

Please see OFGEM’s website for Volume 2 of the guidance in full;

After a glorious autumn… Britain told to prepare for Siberian freeze

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011

Excerpt from the Daily Mail today

Forecasters warning temperatures could drop to -15C by December

Britain faces an abrupt end to a remarkably warm autumn with temperatures plummeting towards Siberian levels, forecasters are warning.

The unusually mild weather is about to give way to a freezing winter, as thermometers dip well below zero within a fortnight.

And the country will be coping with -15C cold by December, according to experts, who have warned that the weather could be as brutal as last year.

Snow could hit the country even earlier than it did then, when the big freeze at the end of November sent Britain into chaos, blocking roads, causing accidents and burying houses.

Jonathan Powell of Positive Weather Solutions said: ‘It will not be as sustained as last year, but these episodes are expected to be severe, with Siberian temperatures.’

Website Update!

Thursday, October 27th, 2011

We have been busy over the past couple of months updating our website and adding new features.

Content and Installations Map

We’ve revised and updated content across the site and added some great new features including a map showing some of our installations across the UK, which now number in excess of 250.

Woodfuel Suppliers Map

Another new feature is the Biomass Fuel Suppliers Map. Biomass fuel is best sourced locally and people always seem to be surprised at just how many local biomass fuel suppliers there are to their local area. So, we’ve added the Biomass Energy Centre’s Woodfuel Suppliers map to the Treco website as a resource for those searching for good local biomass fuel suppliers in their area.

RHI Calculator

We’ve also added Treco’s RHI Calculator, a simple tool shows the installed cost of a Treco biomass boiler system, potential earnings from the RHI scheme over 20 years, fuel savings and the payback period.

It only takes a second to input your fuel usage and see exactly how the Renewable Heat Incentive will help you to not only heat your buildings for less but to receive payments under the scheme.

RHI Update – Expected to Start at the End of November

Wednesday, October 26th, 2011

We are delighted that the European Commission has now given State Aid approval to the RHI and that the tariff for Small Biomass Boiler (Less than 200kW) installations is unchanged at 7.9p per KWh for Tier 1 and 2.0p for Tier 2.

DECC was planning to launch the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) for non-domestic generators on 30 September 2011. State aid approval was a necessary condition for the scheme to go ahead. As part of that process, the European Commission expressed concerns that the large biomass tariff was set too high.

European State Aid was therefore approved subject to the large biomass (above 1MW) tariff being reduced from 2.7p per KWh to 1p per KWh. Revised regulations have now been re-laid in Parliament to reflect the required amendment to the tariff for large scale biomass. We hope the scheme will be open to applications by the end of November 2011, subject to Parliamentary approval.

Renewable Heat Premium Payments Scheme Announced

Friday, July 29th, 2011

On the 21st July DECC announced the details of the Renewable Heat Premium Payments Scheme. The government scheme provides money to householders to help them purchase renewable technologies such as biomass boilers, solar thermal panels and heat pumps. This is a short term scheme making a one off payment to a householder.

The Scheme commences on the 1st August 2011 until the 31st March 2012. The scheme for solar thermal is open to any householder. However, for Biomass and other technologies this is only available to householders who are not currently using gas heating.

The conditions to this scheme are that this must be the householders main home and that they have basic energy efficiency measures in place, such as cavity wall insulation/loft insulation to 250mm where practical. Prior to applying to the Energy Savings Trust (EST) the householder should also have all the necessary planning and environmental permissions in place. Also, that the householder resides in England, Scotland or Wales.

Another requirement is that the product such as a biomass boiler and the installer of the product are both MCS Approved, which TRECO is. It is important to note that if the householder is a recipient under this scheme , as long as they comply with the other conditions of the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI), they will also be eligible for the RHI Scheme.

The Scheme requires that if the householder is entitled to the payments they are required to complete two surveys. Also, as the foundation of this scheme is to gain information regarding heat usage in various homes, a householder may randomly be selected to have a meter installed at no cost, to gain further information, please note that this is a condition of the scheme.  The rates are £950 for biomass boilers, £300 for solar thermal, £850 for air source heat pumps and £1250 for ground source heat pumps.

For further information on the scheme you can contact the EST via their website: http://www.energysavingtrust.org.uk/Generate-your-own-energy/Sell-your-own-energy/Renewable-Heat-Premium-Payment  or via 0800 512 012 or by telephoning Treco on 0845 130 9012 or via info@treco.co.uk .

RHI- Ofgem Update

Monday, July 18th, 2011

Ofgem who are administering the RHI on behalf of the government have now published their guidance in two volumes. Volume one discusses the eligibility requirements and how prospective applicants can apply.  Volume two  discusses the ongoing requirements for applicants, along with information on how periodic support payments are calculated and paid.  It also contains details of Ofgem’s compliance and enforcement powers.

Applications for the RHI will be online via the Ofgem website, however a paper application can be requested. The applicant can only apply after the parliamentary approval has been received due on the 30th September 2011.  All potential applicants should retain any evidence of the design, installation and any documentation relating to the installation as this maybe requested during the accreditation stage or afterwards for audit purposes.

The general eligibility checklist is referred to in Volume one- that  the installation was completed and first commissioned on or after 15 July 2009 and that the heat generated is for eligible purposes.  All sizes of biomass boilers are eligible for the RHI scheme.

A further statement is likely to be released by Ofgem at the end of the consultation period after the 5th August 2011.

For any further information on the RHI and Ofgem and our range of Austrian Guntamatic biomass boilers please contact Treco Ltd on 0845 130 9012 or via info@treco.co.uk or www.treco.co.uk .
