Biomass Fuel

Treco designs, supplies, installs and maintains "multi-fuel" biomass boiler heating systems and hot air machines that burn biomass fuels, such as wood pellets, wood chips, wood logs and miscanthus.

Biomass fuel is best sourced locally, click the link below, then click on where you live on the Forestry Commission's UK fuel supply map to find local suppliers near to you.'

Wood Pellets

Wood Pellets

Wood pellets are a type of biomass fuel, made from compacted sawdust or other waste from sawmilling and manufacturing. Wood pellets should be dry, clean, mechanically robust and have an ash content defined by the appropriate standard. They should also flow freely and be able to be delivered via a pneumatic system. Wood Chips

Wood Chips

Wood chips are a brilliant option for those with access to waste wood and a wood chipping machine. Wood chip can be even more cost effective than wood pellets and, if you are burning your own waste, you can't get a cheaper fuel alternative. Wood chip boilers differ from a pellet boiler in the way that the chips are kept flowing into the boiler. Wood chips will not flow as easily as wood pellets, so an agitator mechanism is needed. The wood chips are placed into a drum and the agitator arm stirs the chips to keep them flowing. Without this the wood chips could solidify into a solid mass in the hopper and cause system blockages. Wood Logs

Wood Logs

Wood logs have been in use since the first fire many millennia ago. Wood logs should be seasoned for 1-2 years before burning, to ensure as low a moisture content as possible. Under 25% is recommended, as energy is lost in burning off excess moisture, rather than providing heat. The Guntamatic Synchro can cope with Wood Logs up to 70 cm in length. Coupled with a thermal store, the Synchro is a fantastic choice for heating your home with logs. Click here for wood logs FAQs.

Miscanthus

Miscanthus

Miscanthus is a grass which has been developed into a biomass energy crop and can be burned in pellet form. It has considerable potential in a wide range of biomass applications and grows throughout the UK. Miscanthus has a calorific value of 3.6 hours per hours per Kilogram and a special reinforced liner is supplied, making Guntamatic biomass boilers one of the only ranges in the UK to be suitable for burning miscanthus.Click here for miscanthus FAQs.
