Following an extended consultation period, the long awaited recommended changes to the RHI legislation came into force on 22nd May 2018. Whilst a number of changes were made to the entire scheme, the main ones that effect biomass projects are the changes to the eligibility criteria.

The amended regulations no longer considers the following as eligible heat uses, which means new applicant from 22/05/18 won't be able to claim RHI payments for any heat used for these activities:

  • wood fuel drying
  • digestate drying
  • waste drying or processing
  • heating domestic swimming pools

For further details on this and other changes please refer to the update on Ofgems website.
