To celebrate Grown in Britain Week and to show our support for the entire forestry and wood fuel sector, Treco is sponsoring young forestry apprentice, Alex Edwards.
We will be providing Alex with financial support so that he can gain additional training to enrich his apprenticeship, which is being funded by the Forestry Commission.
An apprentice forester at the Dartmoor Woodfuel Co-Operative, we will be funding Alex so that he can attend Tree Species Recognition training and a Wood Chipping Operator's License course, which is being run by the Sylvanus Trust at Bicton College.
The Dartmoor Woodfuel Co-Operative has particular significance and association for Treco. Their founder, the sorely missed late Digby Trout, was one of Treco's very first biomass boiler heating system customers. We found him to be true early adopter in the early days of the emerging wood heating industry. He became a great friend and active supporter over the years.
Since their inception in 2009, and Treco's in 2005, both organisations have seen the growth of the wood fuel sector first hand and are now both thriving. The Co-Operative now fuels in excess of two megawatts of biomass boilers in the South Hams and Dartmoor region. Treco has to date designed, supplied, installed and continue to maintain over 600 biomass boiler systems nationwide, including many of Dartmoor Woodfuel Co-Operative's customers.
They have been invaluable in helping and assisting our customers to establish a consistent and high quality woodfuel supply, so critical to the optimum running of our biomass systems. They have also worked closely with our customers and many others, helping and guiding them towards self-supply and managing their own woodlands as a long-term legacy for future generations.
David Knox, Treco's marketing manager, said; "We believe in developing and supporting the whole forestry and wood fuel supply chain. In doing so, we can provide our customers with not just a biomass boiler system, but comprehensive support in gaining quality wood fuel, through the whole-life of their installation, for the 20 years the Renewable Heat Incentive will run and beyond. Wood fuel is a growing sector which needs skilled people and is acting as a catalyst in managing our woodlands. So, supporting a Forestry Apprentice's training is great investment for us. We wish Alex all the very best throughout his forestry career."
