Surge in Scottish Biomass Market

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

Following TRECO General Manager Carl Young’s participation in the Low Carbon Building Programme Regional Events held across the UK, but particularly popular in Edinburgh where over 100 attended, TRECO is now responding to a flurry of installation quotation requests from North of the Border!

That being the case we have noted the Scottish Government has announced a further funding incentive for companies and district heating projects to switch to Biomass under the Scottish Biomass Heating Scheme (SBHS). However, the closing date for applications is mid February, so if you are based in Scotland then read on….

The £3.3 million Scottish Biomass Heat Scheme is Scotland-wide, funded by Scottish Government, Forestry Commission Scotland and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

The SBHS provides grants for the installation of biomass heating systems in business premises and district heating demonstrators.

The SBHS provides support for small-medium sized enterprises, and is restricted to heat-only biomass applications.

The Scottish Government particularly welcomes applications for district heating demonstrators from private developers. Priority will be given to businesses who are not eligible for other funding streams, such as the Scotland Rural Development Programme.

There is an initial enquiry form to log your interest and obtain further guidance from the SBHS team and early contact is advised to clarify eligibility and outline your project’s scope.

The closing date for applications is the 12th February 2010.

What are the effects of Global Warming?

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

So Carbon Savings might not be the most exciting thing in the world… BUT they are essential if we still want to be kicking about in the future!

TRECO have saved (through our installed boilers) over 2,000 tonnes of carbon every year! What does that mean? Well…

Carbon is not good… too much and it clogs up the atmosphere and creates a greenhouse effect….this has a number of effects:

1. Ice Caps will melt- causing sea levels to rise and polar bears to die and land to get flooded (NOT GOOD)

2. This flooding can cause tropical and other diseases to spread more quickly.

3. Warmer water and more hurricanes.

4. Increased probability and intensity of droughts and heat waves.

5. Economic consequences.

If we start to make a change now to our lifestyles and make them less carbon heavy- we have the ability to make a significant amount of damage limitation for the future.

That’s me signing out… Saving the Planet one boiler at a time!

Tatano… Multi-fuel for you!

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

So… What’s so great about the Tatano range

Well, compared to the Guntamatic range they don’t look as pretty and aren’t as efficient BUT they do the job!

They are multi-fuel boilers which mean that as the prices go up and down customers can snap up a few bargains simply by changing the fuel they burn- which means consistently saving money.

Tatano boilers can burn right through from wood pellets, logs, oats, barley and wheat to grasses such as miscanthus.

Definitely worth thinking about if you have access to these types of fuel OR even buy in as you will still save money… Happy Days!!

Domestic Biomass Boiler Installation

Monday, April 20th, 2009

Domestic installation

Tatano Kalorina/E 2202 (25kW)

The customer had an old oil fired boiler which had broken and was looking for a biomass alternative to replace it.

The customer needed heating and hot water for his relatively well insulated property (doubled glazed windows & roof insulation). In the light of his situation we recommend- ed a K2202 and also a 3 tonne pellet store to reduce the amount the customer had to refill the hopper.

TRECO custom-made an outhouse to store the boiler and the pellet store. The out-house was specifically designed to be in-keeping with the stye of the house i.e. the tiles are the same, the angle of the roof is in line and TRECO constructed a custom built gate.

The customer received a grant and TRECO custom-built all the components to be in-keeping with the property- perfect!
